The latest photos of Cate Blanchett aren’t glamorous red carpet shots or effects-laden stills from The Lord Of The Rings. On the contrary, the just-released portraits show Cate in a tender family moment, with the actress cradling her newborn baby as her husband gently wraps his arms around mother and child.
Ten-day-old baby Dashiell is the star of the intimate photos, with Cate the image of tranquillity looking lovingly into the face of her new son. But this wasn’t the first time the newest addition to the family had been in front of the cameras – one week earlier, Cate and husband Andrew Upton posed for pics as they left North London’s St John and St Elizabeth hospital, with their peacefully-sleeping baby tucked away in a carry cot.
Cate had skipped the world premiere of The Lord Of The Rings last week because, as a friend says, she was “just too tired” and instead decided to spend time quietly at home with the newborn. It remains to be seen whether the Oscar nominated actress will attend the premiere of her next film, Charlotte Gray, which debuts stateside on December 28.
