Actress Kim Catrall plays the sexually liberated Samantha Jones in the wildly popular comedy Sex And The City. However, the leggy beauty says she never expected to be a seductress after more than 25 years in Tinseltown.
“If anyone had told me I’d be playing this hot vixen at 45, I’d never have believed it, because acting is a young person’s game,” she told the Radio Times. “But I don’t think I’d be able to do it if I was younger. I know who I am now and feel at home in my body. I don’t ever want to go back to being 20 or 30. I’m not so uptight, or self-conscious about the empowering, positive messages we send out.”
There’s nothing uptight about Kim these days. The blonde bombshell has just penned a self-help title destined for Samantha’s bookshelf, entitled Satisfaction: The Art Of The Female Orgasm. Yet Kim insists she and her on-screen persona aren’t all that alike.
“I think that I was never really on the hunt,” she told Vanity Fair. “I was always very much involved in one relationship, one boyfriend at a time. I never really hung out on the dating scene. It would take me much longer emotionally to get over a love affair, and that’s one of the things I love about Samantha. She has such incredible self-confidence that whatever the challenge she seems to rise to it… She’s a modern day Mae West.”
Staying in shape is certainly a priority for Kim, whose alter ego is often caught showing off her assets. “I’ve worked out for years,” she says. “If I watch what I eat, and I exercise a couple of times a week, I’ll be fine.” But her real beauty secret, it seems, is hitting the sheets. “Lots of sleep,” she says.
The provocative programme, which debuted on US cable network HBO in 1998 and immediately struck a chord with viewers both male and female, returns with a third series on Channel 4 in January.
Kim, a native Liverpudlian, can next be seen on the big screen playing Britney Spears’ mum in the upcoming flick Crossroads.
