When they fell in love it seemed they couldn’t do enough to prove to the world the depth of their passion; gestures included his and hers tattoos, pendants filled with each other’s blood and even side-by-side burial plots. But now Angelina Jolie’s two-year marriage to Billy Bob Thornton is apparently on the rocks.
In an interview with US Weekly magazine the Girl, Interrupted star revealed that the couple had been living in separate hotels for months and have not seen each other since June 3.
“I’m angry. I’m sad. It’s a very difficult and sad time,” the 27-year-old actress was quoted as saying in the interview. “Sometimes you don’t see things coming, even though they are happening. It was a real deep connection, a deep marriage, so it’s not that simple to say this or that one thing caused the problems. It’s clear to me that our priorities shifted overnight.”
It appears that a factor in the shifting priorities may be the Cambodian baby orphan, Maddox, whom the couple adopted earlier in the year. The child was finally permitted to enter the US in early June, but Billy Bob, 46, left almost immediately to go on tour with his country-rock band.
“He’s focused on his music and his career,” says Angelina. “I’m focused on my baby. Maddox is so important to me. It comes down to what’s important to you. Good for him. But I have other priorities.” She also indicated that she would like to adopt more children.
The couple met on the set of the 1999 movie Pushing Tin and were married in Las Vegas in 2000. It was Angelina’s second marriage and Billy Bob’s fifth. The actress says she isn’t sure what the future holds for their relationship. “We’re not divorced yet. We’re going through a difficult time. I’m not sure what will happen.”
A spokesperson for Billy Bob said the Sling Blade writer, actor and director had “no comment” to make about his wife’s revelations.
