NICOLE KIDMAN SPENDS CHRISTMAS DOWN UNDER WITH HER CHILDREN

Moulin Rouge star Nicole Kidman, who spent the festive period in her native Sydney, enjoyed a day out at the beach with her children and her beloved niece over the holidays. The four-some strolled barefoot along Palm Beach, enjoying the heat wave, as son Conor demonstrated his acrobatic skills.

Tom Cruise also spent Christmas Down Under, reportedly taking Conor and daughter Isabella on his yacht for Boxing Day. The Mission Impossible heart-throb was in Australia promoting Vanilla Sky alongside new love Penelope Cruz, and was in close contact with his ex-wife throughout the week.

It’s been quite a year for Nicole. While her February split snagged headlines, 2001 will be remembered as the year the flame-haired Aussie truly became a star in her own right. With the success of both Moulin Rouge and The Others – she received Golden Globe nominations for both – as well as her chart-topping duet with Robbie Williams, Nicole boldly stepped out of Tom’s shadow.

“I feel a little bit like a fish out of water at the moment,” though, she admits. “I feel slightly overwhelmed by everything. I have been travelling the world and there are a lot of questions… I plan to spend the next three months nesting.” And likely collecting awards. Insiders say she’s sure to earn an Oscar nod, though for which film remains anyone’s guess.

Nicole can next be seen on the big screen playing Virginia Woolf in Stephen Daldry’s The Hours.
