Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz enjoyed a romantic ski holiday at his sprawling Colorado estate this weekend, as speculation over the seriousness of their relationship mounts.
With their families descending on the Mission Impossible star’s Telluride ranch – the site of his 1990 wedding to Nicole Kidman – insiders suspected the two were planning a walk down the aisle. However, in the end it was nothing more than a celebration of the New Year and the burgeoning romance between two of Hollywood’s top stars.
Penelope, joined by best friend Spanish actress Goya Toledo, took to the pistes for the first time ever, working the nursery slope with the help of an instructor. Meanwhile, veteran skiier Tom was testing out his snowboarding prowess alongside Pen’s brother Eduardo.
“There was a real air of celebration,” reports one onlooker. “The feeling here is that the big event is imminent.”
Tom and Penelope – recipients of HELLO!’s Most Attractive Couple Of TheYear distinction – met on the set of Cameron Crowe’s thriller Vanilla Sky and were instantly linked in the New York tabloids. The rumours were denied by both camps, but shortly after Tom and wife Nicole split in February, the pair were spotted canoodling stateside. In July, shortly after his 39th birthday bash in LA, they enjoyed a tropical holiday in Fiji and confirmed their romance.
Look for the pair to make an appearance in early February at Spain’s Goya Awards – the Spanish Oscars – where her film Sin Noticias De Dios competes in 13 categories. The Others, which Tom produced, is also a top contender, with the film’s star – and Tom’s ex-wife – Nicole Kidman nominated for Best Actress.
