Reformed Hollywood bad boy Charlie Sheen is planning a walk down the aisle with American actress Denise Richards, spokespeople for the two confirm. The pair fell in love on the set of his sitcom Spin City after her guest appearance and, after a romantic Hawaiian holiday, got engaged over Christmas.
Young Guns star Charlie, son of Golden Globe winner Martin Sheen and brother of actor Emilio Estevez, first met 30-year-old Denise nearly a decade ago while filming Loaded Weapon 1, a Lethal Weapon parody in which they both briefly appeared. They also starred in the little seen romantic comedy Good Advice in 2001.
The planned nuptials for the couple, who are currently sharing Charlie’s LA flat, mark another milestone in Charlie’s newly stable life. After suffering a near-fatal drug overdose in 1998, the Wall Street star has managed to turn things around. He’s received praise for his work on Spin City, deftly taking over for beloved creator Michael J Fox after the actor and philanthropist announced his retirement.
In another attempt to move forward last year Charlie put his “ultimate bachelor pad” in Malibu up for sale, bidding adieu to its poker room, cigar room, billiards hall and batting cage.
This will be the second marriage for 36-year-old Charlie, whose union with model Donna Peele foundered in 1996 after just one year. He was previously engaged to Mrs John Travolta, actress Kelly Preston.
Denise, who starred as Dr Christmas Jones in The World Is Not Enough, was at one-time linked to her Starship Troopers co-star Patrick Muldoon, though she’s never been married.
A date for the wedding has yet to be set.
