BOOT CAMP TEACHES EWAN McGREGOR HE’S NOT AS WILD AS HE USED TO BE

The “hellish” training he underwent at a real US army camp for his role in the war film Black Hawk Down has taught actor Ewan McGregor that he’s no longer one of the “screaming-around guys” he used to be.

“I felt there were the young mad guys, and the big, older serious guys, and I was somewhere in the middle,” says Ewan, who spent his 30th birthday on the movie alongside real soldiers at the training camp. “We'd have three to four mile runs every morning and we did an assault course of a mile in the forest,” he says. “In the end, we had to work our way down the street of a mock village and avoid being shot. I got shot of course.”

The Moulin Rouge star spent much of last year filming Black Hawk Down and the next Star Wars episode with a mostly male cast. And the father of two daughters says while shooting the space adventure, he made another realisation: he likes being around ladies as well. “There were 30 of us guys in this hotel, but I took a lot of time on my own after filming,” he says. “It was bizarre being in an all-male situation… David Bailey once told me his biggest nightmare was four guys in a small car, and I kind of get that.”
