Sultry Salma Hayek and Friends actor David Schwimmer turned out on Monday night for the gala premiere of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new film Collateral Damage. Hundreds of fans cheered as one of Hollywood’s biggest names strolled up the red carpet with his journalist wife Maria Shriver at the film’s LA debut.

In his latest flick, Arnold stars as a firefighter who travels to Colombia to track down the terrorists who killed his family. Though Collateral Damage has the traditional Arnie elements that keep fans flocking to the box office, the Terminator star says the thriller is not just his usual fare. “It's something totally different than I’ve done before,” says Arnold. “It has great action from beginning to end but also my character goes through a tremendous rollercoaster ride emotionally… I think that people will really get their money’s worth.”

In addition to David Schwimmer and Salma Hayek, stunning in a white trouser suit, also on hand to celebrate the film’s opening were American Beauty star Thora Birch and Tim Allen of Home Improvement fame. The action thriller also stars Moulin Rouge’s John Leguziamo and O Brother, Where Art Thou? actor John Turturro. The film was originally slated for release last October, but was delayed after Warner Bros deemed the movie’s themes too disturbing after the September 11 attacks in the US.

Collateral Damage opens in the US on Friday and hits UK screens in the spring.
