Superstar Hollywood couple Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon are set to make a Hollywood production about the September 11 attacks in New York, focusing on the heroism of a British-born security officer.
Titled All The Heroes Are Dead, the film will be based on the actions of Rick Rescorla, 62, who died evacuating people from the World Trade Center and whose bravery helped save 3,800 people. Oscar-winner Susan is to play Rick’s wife of three years, Susan Greer, while Tim will be in the director’s chair. Both hope to have a studio deal in place shortly.
Born in Cornwall, security chief Rick moved to the US at the age of 23 and served in the US Army in Vietnam. At the time of the attacks, he was the head of security at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter in the south tower of the World Trade Center. Minutes before the tower collapsed he made one last phone call to wife Susan to tell her: “You made my life.”
All The Heroes Are Dead, which is based on a The New Yorker magazine article of the same name by James Stewart, will concentrate on the love story between the two. Stewart described them as “two fractured people who found each other late in life and enjoyed a storybook romance”.
The Robbins-Sarandon project is one of three Hollywood productions about the attacks currently in the planning stages.
