Ally McBeal has got a “Friend” in Matthew Perry who is currently closing a deal to guest star in the hit Boston-based legal show.
Having just signed for a ninth and final series of Friends, Matthew is now rumoured to be inking a McBeal deal to appear in two episodes due to be screened together stateside as a two-hour special in April.
He will play a “cocky, successful and opinionated attorney who wreaks havoc on Ally’s personal and professional lives,” said a spokesman for the show.
The programme's producer, David E Kelly, is keeping quiet on the specifics of Matthew’s episodes, but it is known that his appearance is set to coincide with that of another previously announced guest star, Sleepy Hollow actress Christina Ricci.
“Matthew Perry displays a strong presence and natural comedic ability on his other TV project, which makes him a natural choice for Ally McBeal,” said the hit show’s co-executive producer Alice West.
Matthew’s turn will mark one of the few times the actor has appeared in a TV series other than his own. He has, however, notched up recent feature credits on the big screen in the John Travolta vehicle Swordfish, and the comedies The Whole Nine Yards and Fools Rush In.
Previous guest stars on Ally, which is now in its fifth series, include Jon Bon Jovi, Dame Edna Everage, Elton John and Mariah Carey.
