Former X-Files star David Duchovny has signed on to reprise his role as Agent Fox Mulder in the popular sci-fi programme on the final show of the series. As part of the one-off deal, the hunky actor will also direct an episode based on a plot he developed with the executive producers of the show.
David, who left the world-famous programme last season to pursue a film career, will star in a special two-hour series finale that will re-team him with longtime FBI partner Dana Scully, played by Gillian Anderson. In the four final episodes, X-Files creator Chris Carter promises the many mysteries that have kept fans hooked on the show for the last nine years will be resolved. In the wake of David’s exit last year, a number of actors had been brought onto the show, including Terminator 2 star Robert Patrick and The Princess Bride’s Cary Elwes.
Many believed last season would be the show’s last, but the programme's creator, who announced in January he’d be pulling the plug, decided to give it one last go. The instalment featuring the Mulder’s return will be shown in the US in mid-May, and the episode he directed and co-wrote will air on April 28. A sequel to the first X-Files feature film is currently in the works.
