Hannibal actor Sir Anthony Hopkins is taking time out of his weekends to teach a class of acting students at a California college – asking only a cup of coffee in return. The Oscar-winning actor originally gave a lecture at the Ruskin School of Acting at a friend's request. He liked it so much, he’s been going back to teach each Saturday ever since.
Of a total 115 students at the school, Sir Anthony teaches a masterclass to those who have finished the two-year basic course. The 64-year-old actor says he does it because he enjoys himself. “It’s a wonderful feeling to see somebody suddenly opening up,” he says “I feel I have an intuitive thing about actors, especially younger actors. I feel I can help out a bit and give encouragement because it’s a tough business.”
The school’s founder, John Ruskin, said: “It’s unheard of for someone of his stature to offer to do this. That’s part of what makes it so amazing. He could be doing anything he wants and he’s offering himself to our school and our students.”
Sir Anthony is currently filming Red Dragon, the prequel to The Silence Of The Lambs, in which he will once again appear as the flesh-eating psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter.
