Celebrity couple Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton have released details of their adopted baby boy after the actress’ father Jon Voight broke the news on Monday. In a joint statement on Tuesday, the couple said they have named the seven-and-a-half-month-old baby boy Maddox, and announced that they will raise him in both the United States and Cambodia, where he was born.
Midnight Cowboy star Jon told reporters at a Los Angeles luncheon honouring Academy Award nominees on Monday: “Angelina just got a baby yesterday, a Cambodian baby boy, so I’m a grandpa ” Angelina and Billy said they had first met Maddox during a trip to an orphanage last November, and that they had “felt a connection to him”.
The couple took custody of the boy in Africa on Monday, where the Tomb Raider star is on location with her latest film project. “We are very grateful to have Maddox in our lives,” the Hollywood couple declared. Twenty-six-year-old Angelina – a United Nations goodwill ambassador – and Billy met while making the 1999 air traffic control comedy Pushing Tin, and were married in Las Vegas in August 2000. Billy, who is currently starring in Monster’s Ball, has two children from a previous marriage.
“In May, we return home where Maddox’s brothers Willie and Harry are very excited to meet him,” said the couple.
