The countdown has begun for the Hollywood event of the year. And though the Oscar winners won’t be revealed until the Sunday night ceremony in Los Angeles, hellomagazine.com users are making their favourites known – Nicole Kidman, The Lord Of The Rings, and the stars of A Beautiful Mind.

According to our numbers, it’s no contest – Lord Of The Rings, which took the box office by storm, also looks to sweep two top filmmaking categories, best film and best director - or at least our readers hope so. More than 40 per cent of votes cast have gone to The Lord Of The Rings as top film, while over half selected Peter Jackson for the directing category.

Who’ll win the best actress Oscar is one of the night's most exciting revelations, and our readers have it clear – Moulin Rouge actress Nicole Kidman is tops with 57 per cent of the vote. Another star from Down Under, Russell Crowe, won a BAFTA his role in A Beautiful Mind, but the Gladiator star faces tough competition in the best actor Oscar arena from Denzel Washington and Will Smith. However, our scorecard shows that Russell has nothing to fear, as he’s already scampered off with nearly 60 per cent of votes.

With Jennifer Connelly leading Kate Winslet by around 10 per cent in the best supporting actress category, this is the tightest race in the hellomagazine.com poll. Just two days before the Oscars, 40 per cent of voters think Russell’s A Beautiful Mind co-star should take home the golden boy on Sunday. And nominees in the best supporting actor category weren’t able to work enough magic to beat Ian McKellen’s portrayal of Gandalf the Wizard, which has garnered him the lead with an impressive 55 per cent.

And that’s the rundown on who our readers think should come up winners - so far, that is. The official Oscar ballot count is closed, but our polls are still open.

Don’t forget to log on Sunday/Monday for as-it-happens coverage of the star-studded event, and to see if hellomagazine.com users hit the nail on the head with their Oscar predictions!
