Lord Of The Rings star Sean Bean has fulfilled a longtime goal by joining the board of his favourite football team, Sheffield United. The 42-year-old, born and raised in the Yorkshire town, has been a fan of the club all his life and sports a “100% Blade” tattoo on his left shoulder.
And, according to the Sheffield camp, the admiration is 100 per cent mutual. Says the club’s acting chairman Kevin McCabe says: “We are delighted that another true Blade has joined the board of Sheffield United.”
The deal has been in the discussion stages for some time, but was made official in London over the weekend. In addition to serving as one of the team’s directors, millionaire Sean will also make a financial investment in his beloved club, though the exact figure remains to be seen.
The Bond baddie, who celebrates his 43rd birthday next week, has often said he’d swap his career to get a chance to play for the team. And he did fulfill the dream – on screen, that is – portraying a United striker in When Saturday Comes, scoring a winning goal against Man U.
