Catherine Zeta-Jones brought her ever-present Tinseltown glamour to a Monte Carlo charity dinner on Monday night, in the run-up to the Oscars of athletics, the Laureus World Sports Awards. Stunning in a black Versace creation slashed to the thigh and accompanied by husband actor Michael Douglas, the America’s Sweethearts actress was every bit the Hollywood star.

The lace-trimmed creation, worn with sexy Gina stiletto heels, was Catherine’s eye-catching frock of choice for The Laureus Sport For Good dinner, but the big screen starlet wasn’t just there to show off her style. She helped raise nearly £125,000 for the philanthropic cause – financing inspirational community sports programmes – paying more than £30,000 for a set of sports legend photos in the night’s charity auction.

Catherine and Michael, 57, weren’t the only superstars at the celebrity-packed event – other guests included the actress’ Entrapment co-star Sir Sean Connery, Se7en star Morgan Freeman, supermodel Heidi Klum, basketball legend Michael Jordan and tennis champ Boris Becker.

Perhaps the Traffic star couple asked Jordan and Becker for advice, as it seems they have sporting ambitions for their little one, Dylan, who is nearly two. “I favour basketball or maybe even tennis, but I think Catherine may have other plans,” says Michael. “She and her father are very into what you call football so I think she would most like him to do that for a living.”

The Laureus World Sports Awards are set to take place on Tuesday.
