Hit TV series Ally McBeal is to close with a surprise wedding when the final episode of the show is aired on US screens this week. But producers are keeping quiet about whether it will be the title character walking down the aisle.
After five years on the box, Ally, played by Calista Flockhart, will make her grand exit on America’s Fox network on Tuesday, with a show that will feature many of the Boston lawyer’s old friends and past loves. The show had been a constant ratings winner with a series of zany plots which included characters singing in court and Ally being visited by her boyfriend’s ghost. Among the stars who had made guest appearances were Elton John and Sting.
But Ally’s never-ending quest for love eventually left the show running out of steam and the latest series has lost a third of its viewers. “There are only so many stories you can do,” said the series’ creator David Kelly.
British fans will have the chance to see Ally’s swansong on Channel 4 later this year.
