The glamour parade also known as the Cannes Film Festival continued yesterday with Naomi Campbell turning heads as she strolled into the showing of Ralph Fiennes and Miranda Richardson’s latest movie, Spider, on the eve of her birthday.
The statuesque supermodel, who turns 32 on Wednesday, was decked out in an empire line skirt worn with a Spanish bullfighter-inspired sleeved bra top in blue velvet. Naomi and her beaded confection, topped off with a tassled neckpiece, set flash bulbs popping, as did two other special guests – Spider actress Miranda Richardson and filmmaker David Cronenberg.
The director, famed for The Fly, EXistenZ and getting booed at Cannes in 1996 for the controversial Crash, was accompanied by Miranda on the red carpet at the Palais des Festivals screening of the thriller. Spider, adapted by British author Patrick McGrath from his 1990 novel, tells the story of a schizophrenic Londoner, played by Ralph Fiennes, released from a mental institution.
Miranda plays three separate roles in the film, including the main character’s young mother, but the demanding job wasn’t at all a problem for the acclaimed actress. “I enjoyed that and didn’t question too much,” she says.
