Bearded Brad Pitt and his wife Jennifer Aniston were among the many celebrities who showed up for the Los Angeles premiere of the latest Matt Damon movie, The Bourne Identity.
With this film, based on the best-selling novel by Robert Ludlum, Brad's friend Matt joins the current trend for spy stories: he portrays a man suffering from amnesia who is trapped in a race to elude assassins and recover his memory. Commenting on Hollywood's newfound fondness for this kind of film, Matt said, "There's something more sexy about that world than our own lives." The spy world, he says, is "inherently fascinating." His close friend Ben Affleck would probably agree - he opens shortly in another best-seller taken to the screen, as Tom Clancy's CIA agent Jack Ryan, a role formerly played by perennial favourite Harrison Ford.
German actress Franka Potente, who is best known for her role in the award-winning film Run Lola Run, stars along with Matt in the film, which opens in the US on June 14 and in the UK on September 6.Hunky Brad, meanwhile, has taken some stick for his change of look, but since the beard's only there for a new film, The Last Man, it could well be a case of 'hair today, gone tomorrow'.
