The tiny Welsh fishing village of Mumbles is looking forward to a boost in reputation and probably income with the revelation that its most famous daughter, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, is building a family mansion there.

Her parents, Dai and Pat, already have a home in the area, but it is too small to cope with the ultra-famous Douglas family – Catherine, her husband Michael and their toddler son Dylan – when they come over from Los Angeles for a visit.

Tired of staying in hotels, Catherine has taken the obvious way out, investing in a home which her parents will be able to use when she’s not there but which will serve as a massive get-together retreat whenever she and Michael hit town.

The house is one of three exclusive homes being developed on the cliffs above Mumbles, at a reported cost of around £1 million each. The Douglas mansion will have a gym and a library and is due for completion by Christmas. News of the purchase comes shortly after the revelation that Michael and Catherine plan to send Dylan to a Welsh school when he is older.

Locals are pleased at the prospect of increased contact with the Douglases. “When Catherine comes back to see her parents, they are always round here, eating in local restaurants,” said a local landlord. “They are very popular.”
