Paramount Pictures feted its 90th anniversary in style Sunday night, inviting 90 of its brightest stars, from Al Pacino to Catherine Zeta-Jones, to celebrate the renowned studio's rich history within the gates of its famous Tinseltown lot.
There was no genre left unrepresented on the LA event’s star studded guest list: famous faces from the film world included blonde bombshell Sharon Stone, hunky Benicio Del Toro, veteran actress Jane Fonda, actor-director Jodie Foster and comedian Jim Carrey. Legends Sidney Poitier, Charlton Heston and 81-year-old former child star Mickey Rooney – one of Paramount’s earliest big names – were also on hand to pay homage to the historic studio.
Paramount’s 29 sound stages have also been the home to some of the world’s most famous TV programmes for decades – a fact well reflected by the iconic stars on the anniversary party’s red carpet. Happy Days’s The Fonz Henry Winkler embraced Cheers star Ted Danson, while Star Trek actor William Shatner and The Brady Bunch mum Florence Henderson represented the Sixties generation.
Founded in 1912 by Adolph Zukor, and these days the only film studio still located in Hollywood, Paramount recently revealed a revamped version of their famous mountain and stars logo to celebrate nine decades in filmmaking. The new icon can be seen at the beginning of its latest effort, the Harrison Ford thriller K-19: The Widowmaker, in US cinemas July 19.
