Just two weeks after Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from hubby Billy Bob Thornton, it has been revealed that she’s has also fallen out with her father, actor Jon Voight.

In a tearful interview on US television, Jon, who co-starred with his daughter on the 2001 film Tomb Raider, claims Angelina has “carried a lot of pain for years” and no longer wants to see him. The Oscar-winning actor explained he’s “broken-hearted because I’ve been trying to reach my daughter and get her help, and I have failed and I’m sorry”.

Angelina, who was raised in New York by her mother along with her older brother James after Jon left the family when she was one year old, was reunited with her father in recent years after a longtime estrangement.

The Girl, Interrupted star responded to the revelations with a statement of her own. “I don’t want to make public the reasons for my bad relationship with my father,” says Angelina, who herself became an adoptive mum earlier this year. “After all these years, I have determined that it is not healthy for me to be around my father, especially now that I am responsible for my own child.”

The sentiments echo her statement regarding Billy Bob when they broke up just over a month after she brought home Cambodian-born baby Maddox. “He is focused on his music and his career,” said Angelina of her ex-husband. “I’m focused on my baby. Maddox is so important to me. It comes down to what’s important to you.”
