The Sopranos are about to make fans a dining offer they can’t refuse. HBO, the producers of the show about a New Jersey mob family, are to launch a recipe book by one of the show’s characters, and are also planning a gourmet food line.
Set for relase next month, The Sopranos Family Cookbook: As Compiled By Artie Bucco will be a collection of southern Italian recipes put together by Tony Soprano’s civilian goombah, Artie, who lords over the kitchen of the Nuovo Vesuvio restaurant in the TV show. The recipes will be sprinkled with advice from other cast members, including Tony himself, on his secret grilling methods.
A line-up of gourmet foods featuring the name Artie Bucco – played on the show by John Ventimiglia – will be available via the HBO website, www.hbo.com from September, to coincide with the beginning of The Sopranos fourth season.
The first batch of products – including marinara sauce, creamy Caesar salad dressing and dry ziti pasta – will be rolled out to supermarkets and speciality shops next year. Next year HBO plan to branch out into barbeque sauce, olive oil and other types of salad dressings. There will also be a line of frozen pizzas.
