Gwyneth Paltrow has spent her 20s enjoying a red-hot career with such films as Emma and Shakespeare In Love, taking home an Oscar win for the latter. And in her spare time, the 29-year-old has managed to become a fashion icon, befriend fellow A-listers Madonna and Donatella Versace, and date some of the world’s sexiest men, including Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck. Not suprisingly, the actress admits: “I’m interested to see how my 30s play out.”
And for her big 3-0 on September 28, the actress is thinking about taking friends away on holiday, to “do things to ground myself with people that I really love and whom I’ve known forever”, she tells the Daily Express. But she’s keeping mum on whether or not one of those pals will be close friend Madonna, whom Gwyneth “adores”. “We’re friends because she’s a fantastically interesting woman, very powerful within,” she says. “We are on similar paths in our lives – what we eat, our yoga and stuff like that.”
Surrounded by famous girlfriends, Gwyneth, who recently complained British men don’t ask her out on dates, says she’s learned a lesson about getting involved with high-profile men on the romantic front. “Life can become complicated if you fall in love with someone who is famous,” she explains. “And you get your privacy invaded whether he’s famous or you are. So I don’t talk about my private life anymore. I learned that when I was going out with Brad (Pitt).”
Another lesson she’s learned as she reaches the landmark age is the reality of a star’s shelf life in Tinseltown – especially for screen actresses. “I realise that in Hollywood you have a finite window to earn a lot of money,” she says. “In Hollywood they’ll pay you well for a short period of time if you’re a woman.” Citing films with strong female leads such as Thelma And Louise and Silence Of the Lambs, Gwyneth says: “They don’t seem to make them like that anymore.”
Regardless, Gwyneth is taking the road ahead at her stride. “I look forward to my 30th birthday with excitement,” she says. “I think it’s going to be a good era.”
