Although Oscar nominated actor Ethan Hawke was spotlighting his literary efforts and not his acting at his London book launch on Thursday, the Training Day star’s celebrity fans included fellow thespians Kyle MacLachlan and Woody Harrelson.

Kyle and Woody, in town for a stint in the West End comedy On An Average Day until October, were just two of the guests who turned out at St Martins Lane Hotel to toast the Gattica actor’s second novel, Ash Wednesday. After meeting with success with his first endeavour, The Hottest State, he sold the second story for a reported $500,000.

Though he left acting briefly to complete his first book, Ethan won´t be leaving Hollywood any time soon, despite doubts he once had about the trade. “I was always worried as a younger person about getting too much attention for what I deemed a frivolous profession,” he told British newspaper The Independent. “But it’s not frivolous, it’s just overly celebrated… I have tried to leave but ultimately there’s an addictive heat to the attention you get when you act.”

But will Ethan one day bring his two passions, writing and acting, together on the big screen? Though the Dead Poets Society star “loves” thinking about the prospect, he won’t likely be doing it any time soon. “I think I’d want control of the film if I did,” he says. “If someone really great wanted to direct it, then I suppose I’d let them, but I’m so opinionated about it that I can’t imagine being able to let go enough.”
