Gorgeous Michelle Pfeiffer and her Ally McBeal creator hubby David E Kelley arrived hand in hand for the LA debut of her latest film, White Oleander, the actress’ first effort since last year’s acclaimed I Am Sam.
Dressed in a black sheer top and white trousers, the California-born star seemed nothing like her White Oleander character, an artist who is imprisoned after poisoning the lover who betrayed her. Strangely enough, however, the role – based on a character in the best-selling novel of the same name – was written by author Janet Fitch with the Oscar-nominated actress in mind.
Though Michelle says she’s “flattered” she was the author’s choice for the role, she adds the part was extremely difficult to play. “I’ve never played a character that people don’t like,” she explains. “I loved the role but I had to get over the obstacle of trying to make her more sympathetic.”
White Oleander, which also stars actress Renee Zellweger, opens in the US on October 11 and hits UK screens in November.
