When Julia Roberts got all dressed up for what she imagined would be an intimate night out celebrating her 35th birthday with cameraman husband Danny Moder on Saturday she was in for a big surprise.
The star of Pretty Woman and Full Frontal had been lured to the exclusive Players Club in Manhattan by the idea of an evening of wining, dining and dancing with her second hubby, whom she married in a surprise midnight ceremony in New Mexico in July. When the screen star arrived at the club she was greeted by 100 friends, all decked out in black-tie attire, who greeted her with a chorus of “Surprise!”
Danny, who met Julia while both were working on The Mexican last year, decided his new wife deserved a no-holds-barred fiesta. To make sure the party was a whopping success, the New York Post reports, he not only booked the whole club for the night but also laid on a top-notch cool jazz combo, and invited all the guests, too. Julia, fittingly, had recently learned ballroom dancing for her role in director Mike Newell’s forthcoming Mona Lisa Smile so was able to make the most of Danny’s gesture by dancing the night away.
