The curtain raised on the 46th Regus London Film Festival on Wednesday, with Amelie actress Audrey Tatou, who stars in the first night film, Dirty Pretty Things, heading the line-up of glamorous celebrity guests.

Along with Shakespeare In Love hunk Joseph Fiennes and Hollywood star Woody Harrelson, the French actress added her own touch of glitz to the London Leicester Square event. She joined her cast mates Chiwitel Ejiofor, Sophie Okonedo and Benedict Wong at the screening of the London set-thriller, which looks at the world of illegal immigrants.

The first project by director Stephen Frears since 2000's High Fidelity takes a look at "the invisible people of London", says co-star Sophie. She adds: "On another layer, it's a thriller, it's a love story, so it's got it all."

Starting the two-week long festival with an international theme is fitting, as films from nearly 50 countries around the world will be shown this year. Works slated for screening include Roman Polanski's The Pianist, Eminem's big screen debut 8 Mile and the event's closing movie, The Heart Of Me, starring Helena Bonham Carter.

In addition to the Planet Of The Apes actress, other stars expected to attend the two-week long festival are Kim Basinger, Michael Caine, John Malkovich, Javier Bardem, Heath Ledger, Kate Hudson and Sean Bean.
