The X-Files actress Gillian Anderson is currently making her West End debut and says she loves being back in London, where she lived for several years as a child.
The role of Melinda, a mother in her early forties who is sought out by a man she had an affair with ten years previously, is the one that tempted Gillian back onto the stage after a long time scouring scripts that didn’t really convince her. “It’s absolutely terrifying,” she says of doing Michael Weller's What The Night Is For, “but I was determined to do it.”
Though demanding, the play - a two-hander which Gillian shares with Olivier Award-winning actor Roger Allam – gives the famous redhead a chance to ease up on the punishing schedule she used to endure when filming The X-Files, allowing her more time to spend with her daughter Piper.
As for London, already a hot favourite with the likes of Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow, “It’s fantastic to be back,” says Gillian. “I love this city! Great conversation, great meals, great friends…”
