It seems the honeymoon is over for Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage and his wife of three months, Lisa Marie Presley. The film star filed for divorce on Monday – just two days after the couple appeared hand in hand at a movie premiere – and his now-estranged spouse says the whole marriage was a "big mistake".
Papers filed by the Leaving Las Vegas star cite "irreconcilable differences" for the split. However, Lisa Marie, the daughter of music icon Elvis Presley, had a more simple explanation.
"We shouldn't have been married in the first place. It was a big mistake," she said in a statement.
It seems it wasn't a case of third time lucky for the Elvis Presley Enterprises CEO, whose past husbands include musician Danny Keogh and pop icon Michael Jackson. She and Nic – a huge Elvis fan who impersonated the star in Honeymoon In Vegas and sang Love Me Tender for the Wild At Heart soundtrack – wed in a romantic Hawaiian cermony in August, just before the 25th anniversary of her famous father's death.
Nic, who divorced actress Patricia Arquette last May after six years of marriage, refused to comment about the split. "I did not talk about the marriage and I am not going to talk about the divorce," he says.
