It was a sad day for more than one style-conscious client when Yves Saint Laurent retired and shut the doors to his haute couture house this year. But it presented a unique dilemma for the French designer's muse of 30 years, Catherine Deneuve, famous for exclusively wearing only his creations. Who should she don next?
Though designers are surely lining up to dress the iconic actress whose Saint Laurent-clad form was immortalised in Belle du Jour, it seems the 59-year-old legend already has someone in mind.
Unsurprisingly, the creator in question is French. "Of course I love YSL," the actress revealed to the Daily Express, "but I've come to like Jean Paul-Gaultier. He designed the outfits for my last film, so I may start wearing (him)."
However, don't expect Catherine – who owns the very last creation made by Yves, an embroidered jacket – to be seen in anything but Saint Laurent for now. "I have enough YSL outfits to wear for a long time yet," she assures.
