Martin Scorsese's Gangs Of New York made its debut in the chilly Big Apple on Monday night, with its hot stars – including Hollywood golden girl Cameron Diaz and Titanic hunk Leonardo DiCaprio – raising temperatures as they helped launch the highly-anticipated historical drama.
Throngs of fans shouted Leo's name as he arrived at the Ziegfield Theatre for the screening, while Cameron was greeted with cheers when she emerged from her limousine bundled up in a dark high-necked coat set off with a brightly-coloured fedora and vivid lipstick.
But the Charlie's Angels star wasn't the only beauty warming up the red carpet – Moulin Rouge actress Nicole Kidman and supermodel Naomi Campbell were on the scene as well.
Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis, who came out of a five-year retirement to participate in friend Scorsese's $125-million epic, made a rare appearance at the film's premiere, joined by his co-stars Liam Neeson and Henry Thomas of ET fame.
The film, which tells the story of 19th-century rival gangs in New York – "the nativists… versus the hordes of immigrants", explains Leo – initially wrapped in April, 2001. Its long-awaited release had been delayed due to cost overruns and the global climate after the September 11 attacks last year.
The film opens throughout the US on December 20, and will hit UK screens on January 10.
