Sir Michael Caine is enjoying Oscar buzz for his role in The Quiet American, but he might soon be known as The Freezing Brit. Though homesickness drove him away from US shores in the Eighties, the 69-year-old actor tells The Daily Star that after years of cold weather in Britain, he can't wait to get back to the California sunshine.

"My wife and I are at a point where we have to get away from English winters," says Sir Michael, who has been married to Shakira since 1973. "We've rented a house for three months in Beverly Hills and hope to buy it after that."

It seems the actor has changed his tune since he decided to move away from the City of Angels with his family in 1987 after deciding he wasn't happy. "Beverly Hills is a golden ghetto," he said at the time. "I get up, sunbathe, have a Jacuzzi, play some tennis… and then what is there to do? My brain has been turning to jelly."

Fans in both countries can catch the two-time Oscar winner in The Quiet American when it's released worldwide in January.
