Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry and husband Eric Benet are hoping to revive their troubled marriage by renewing their vows at a romantic Hawaiian ceremony in the New Year.

Their relationship has been under strain since the 35-year-old singer admitted to having an affair earlier this year. However, Eric has said that he is desperate to stay with Halle and that he deeply regrets his involvement with model Julia Riley.

"Eric has said he is truly sorry for cheating on her," a friend was quoted as saying. "He knows what he did was a moment of madness. He suggested renewing their vows and making a proper go of things. He is desperate not to lose Halle and she, in turn, will do everything to save the marriage."

The news of his affair came just as Halle was reaching the peak of her career, collecting this year's Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Monster's Ball.

The renewal ceremony is to take place in a luxury hotel in Hawaii in the New Year. It will be a very private ceremony, with just a few close family and friends present.

The 34-year-old actress will be hoping that a fresh commitment will mark the beginning of a new era in her troubled relationship history. She admits that her bitter divorce from baseball star David Justice almost drove her to suicide and that she has chosen abusive relationships in the past. One former boyfriend attacked her with such brutality that she was left partially deaf.
