Jennifer Aniston has announced that she is going to leave Friends because she wants to have a baby with husband Brad Pitt. "In my mind, I'm done. I want to start my family," she said in an interview.

By leaving the show Jennifer waves goodbye to £700,000 per episode, but she says her emotional well-being is more important. "If I'm closed off and not in touch with anything I feel, I'm not going to bring anything to the role," she said. "The best thing to come out of this current season is that I took a step forward in allowing myself to continue.

"There's this feeling of 'I want to be challenged'. You don't have to deal with that much in Friends. You just have to have a good joke and give a good reaction."

The 33-year-old actress has won critical acclaim for her performance in the independent film The Good Girl, suggesting that she may also have a bright future in movie acting.

Her Friends co-stars have had bad luck in their big screen efforts, however, and Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and Lisa Kudrow have all expressed their interest in returning for a 10th season.

But Courtney Cox and David Schwimmer have both said that they won't continue the show unless all six cast members carry on. So farewell to Jennifer may mean farewell to Friends en masse.

She won an Emmy for her portrayal of Rachel, and it is thought she may have a bright future in movies. Things do not look so hopeful for the rest of the Friends cast however
