Christopher Reeve is in for a blast from the past this February, as he meets a young Clark Kent in an episode of the US TV programme Smallville.
The 50-year-old actor has signed on to the show, which chronicles the life of a teenage Clark before he becomes the Man Of Steel, in a one off-role as a scientist who gives the future superhero insight into his destiny.
Smallville creator Alfred Gough says the part of Dr Swann was written specifically for the Superman star, who was paralyzed from the neck down in a 1995 riding accident. "We were extremely honoured when he said yes," he added. And, says Gough, a recurring role in the series has not been ruled out. "I would love to have him back," he says. "And it would be completely up to him."
Usually shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, the programme will be filmed in New York to accommodate the wheelchair-bound star, who requires a ventilator to breathe. A public service announcement for his charity, the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, will air at the end of the episode.
Christopher made his name around the world as Superman in the first instalment of the big screen blockbuster in 1978, and reprised the role in three sequels.
