If her latest movie is anything to go by, renowned actress Helen Mirren has no intention of growing bashful as her 58th birthday approaches.
The Prime Suspect star, who has earned a reputation for her risqué onscreen appearances over the years, shows that she can still steam up the screen in the forthcoming flick The Roman Spring of Mrs Stone. The film, a remake of the Tennessee Williams novel of the same name, tells the story of a widowed actress who embarks on a passionate affair with a younger man.
She reprises the role played by Vivien Leigh in a 1961 production of the story. French actor Olivier Martinez - who also played a seductive young lover in Unfaithful last year, starring with Diane Lane and Richard Gere - takes over the part played by Warren Beatty in the earlier movie.
"It was great," says Helen of her latest enterprise. "I felt like a very lucky girl – woman I should say. Olivier is incredibly good fun. He's very self-deprecating and makes fun of himself."
As for her next project, Helen is to head a cast in a movie telling the story of the Rylston Women's Institute. The institute's members achieved fame by being photographed in their birthday suits in order to raise money for leukaemia research.
