Harry Potter is set to cast his biggest spell yet after it was announced JK Rowling's long-awaited new book will hit the shelves this summer. Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix is due to hit stores on June 21, where droves of fans will no doubt be waiting.

The sequel is the longest in the series so far, weighing in at an impressive 255,000 words. That makes it three times the length of your average novel, so eager readers will be tied up with the new adventure for quite a while.

Rumours that author JK Rowling was suffering from writer's block have been decisively quashed by the announcement. The 37-year-old reveals that the new instalment will be the scariest in the series, with several characters being bumped off. "In book five Harry has to examine exactly what death means, in even closer ways," she said.

There is more news on the next Harry Potter film, too, as Timothy Spall has reportedly signed up to appear in the production. The British actor, who is well known for his work with renowned director Mike Leigh on films like Life Is Sweet and Secrets And Lies will join an ensemble cast. The Prisoner of Azkaban is set to be a showcase of UK acting talent, with David Thewlis, Gary Oldman and Michael Gambon also appearing.
