Friends star Matthew Perry is set to make his stage debut in London's West End this Spring. The actor will be appearing opposite Minnie Driver and Hank Azaria in a production of David Mamet's Sexual Perversity In Chicago.
Matthew is to play Danny, the role taken by Rob Lowe in the 1986 film adaptation of the work, About Last Night. While the actor is a newcomer to the stage, his British co-star is a veteran of both movies and theatre. She is also no stranger to American characters, having made her name in films like Grosse Point Blank and Good Will Hunting. Her most recent theatre appearance was in the comedy The Play What I Wrote.
First produced on stage in the windy city, Sexual Perversity In Chicago has seen several revivals both in New York and London. The legendary playwright's chronicle of romantic adventures in Seventies Chicago will open at the Comedy Theatre on May 12.
The casting of Matthew is further evidence that London has become a favourite city for US actors hoping to garner the kudos of stage performance. Daryl Hannah cut her theatre teeth here in The Seven Year Itch while Chris Klein and Matt Damon have both appeared inThis Is Our Youth. Other silver screen stars who have crossed the pond to tread the boards in London include Nicole Kidman, Brendan Fraser, Madonna and Kevin Spacey.
