There was a veritable Hollywood invasion in London on Thursday as George Clooney and Salma Hayek both jetted in for separate movie premieres.

Gorgeous George was in town for the screening of his sci-fi thriller Solaris in Notting Hill. The hunky star admitted to feeling a little lonely on the most romantic day of the year: "It's terrible. I have to spend my Valentine's Day working, which is very sad for me," said the 41-year-old.

After arriving with his British co-star Natasha McElhone, George spent ten minutes signing autographs for fans who had waited for hours in the freezing cold.

Across town in Leicester Square, meanwhile, Salma Hayek was meeting another crowd of loyal cinema-lovers at the premiere of her new film Frida. The actress, whose portrayal of the renowned artist Frida Kahlo has won her an Oscar nomination, was eager to praise her fellow nominees Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger, Julianne Moore and Diane Lane. "I think they are terrific," she said. "I'm just very happy with all the nominations the films have got. Only very few get to have this kind of acknowledgement and you feel very fortunate."

While her boyfriend Edward Norton was unable to join her at the screening, Salma assured journalists that she would not be in the same boat as George Clooney in lonelyville. The 36-year-old had made arrangements to join her beau for the big day.

Mexican-born Salma clearly wasn't ready for the chilly London weather. When photographers asked her to take her coat off, she politely refused, saying "I'm freezing"
