Brad Pitt is well-known for his on-screen adventures, but now the actor has proven himself as a real-life action hero.
The 39-year-old was smoking a cigarette outside a swish Los Angeles restaurant when he spotted a woman in peril. The driver of a sports car, who had lost control of his vehicle and mounted the pavement, was headed straight for her. She didn't see the car coming, but Brad sprang into action and pushed her out of the way.
"I'm so happy to be alive, and even happier it was you that saved me," said the lucky lady. Brad responded with characteristic modesty, saying only that he was "glad to be of service".
His heroic feat comes just a few months after his wife Jennifer Aniston saved a man from choking by performing the Heimlich manoeuvre. The Friends star was dining in a Hollywood restaurant when she saw the man struggling for breath and immediately rushed to his aid.
And soon afterwards, she herself was rescued from a potentially deadly accident by fellow actor Jim Carrey. The two were on-set of their new film Bruce Almighty when strong winds knocked a lighting crane over. The heavy rig would have landed on Jen if Jim hadn't quickly pulled her out of its way.
"You saved my life. You're a real hero," said the shocked actress afterwards. She also baked him a cake and sent him flowers to express her gratitude.
