Pierce Brosnan may be best known as cool-as-ice secret agent James Bond, but in real life he's a kind natured family man. And his sensitive side was in evidence when he showed up to the premiere of his new film Evelyn in London's Leicester Square.

It was befitting that the film, a tug-of-love story set in 1950s Ireland, took place on St Patrick's Day. And the Irish hunk was keen to say how proud he is of the movie, which marks a radical departure from his usual tough-guy characters.

In the film Pierce plays a single dad desperately trying to win back custody of his children. "On St Patrick's Day we have to celebrate a movie that will touch people's hearts. I think there will be a few pints raised at the end of the evening," said the 49-year-old.

"I'm deeply proud of the picture, I'm deeply proud we made it and every man and woman in it shone brightly."

Other stars at the event included his co-star Julianna Margulies, who you'll recognise as Nurse Hathaway from ER and Vic Reeves' new wife Nancy Sorrell, who sported a risqué evening dress.

Pierce seems eager to break free of the steely Bond character, and will next be appearing in a romantic comedy. Laws Of Attraction, the latest flick from Sliding Doors director Peter Howitt, will see him appearing opposite Julianne Moore. The film, which is also to be filmed in Ireland, follows the story of a couple of divorce lawyers who find themselves facing marital breakdown.
