Silver screen icon Elizabeth Taylor says that Sunday's Oscar ceremony will mark her farewell as an actress.
The 71-year-old is scheduled to take part in a walk-past of all surviving winners from the ceremony's 75-year history. The appearance will be her last as an actress, however, as she now intends to focus on her role as an AIDS activist.
"That will be my swan song on the stage," she said. "I've retired from acting; it doesn't really interest me that much anymore. It seems kind of superficial because now my life is AIDS, not acting."
Though she hasn't made many movies in recent years, cinema lovers will be saddened to hear that she is officially saying goodbye to acting. Liz has won two Academy Awards for her performances, in 1967's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and Butterfield 8 in 1961. She became deeply involved in AIDS activism after 1985, however, when her friend Rock Hudson lost his life to the illness.
