Madonna's latest film has swept the boards at one of the year's biggest movie awards ceremonies. But the Queen of Pop's hopes of a long awaited acting breakthrough will have to wait, as she has been honoured not at the Oscars, but at the Golden Raspberries (Razzies).

The material girl and her husband Guy Ritchie took the ceremony, which celebrates exceptionally bad performances, by storm. Swept Away won gongs for worst remake, worst actress (Madonna), worst director (Guy), and worst onscreen couple (Madonna and Adriano Gianni).

The film also earned the distinction of being the event's lowest-grossing worst film ever. It made a less-than-substantial $598,645 at the box office. And if all that wasn't enough, the singer's fleeting appearance in Die Another Day brushed aside competition in the worst supporting actress category. In all, Madonna now has a whopping five worst actress Razzies.

She had to share this year's main honour with the heiress to her pop throne, Britney Spears, however. The youngster's debut performance in Crossroads was considered just as woeful as her mentor's, while she also scooped the worst original song trophy for Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman.

And it wasn't just singer-turned-actresses who took a triumphant mocking at the event. The Star Wars series was brought back down to earth as Attack Of The Clones won worst supporting actor, for Hayden Christensen, and worst screenplay for George Lucas. The main acting award meanwhile went to Life Is Beautiful's Roberto Benigni, for his less-than-animated performance in Pinocchio.
