Kiwi heart-throb Russell Crowe has tied the knot with his Aussie partner Danielle Spencer in a luxurious ceremony north of Sydney.
The two actors made their vows in a chapel which Russell had renovated especially for the occasion. And their wedding outfits were also specially made, by none other than their iconic guest Giorgio Armani.
Needless to say, news crews scrambled to cover the event, hiring all local helicopters and setting up camp at the entrance to Russell's property Nana Glen. The Oscar winner had tried to get a no-fly zone declared, amidst fears for the safety of Texas governor Rick Perry, who was also in attendance. Local authorities said no, however, so the world's media took to the skies unhindered.
Thankfully, the sound of a few rotor blades couldn't inhibit the celebrations, as the Gladiator star celebrated not just his wedding, but also his 39th birthday. And though his publicist Wendy Day said the media had "gone over the top" in its efforts to gain access, Russell managed to shield his guests from prying eyes with a number of huge marquees. The A-list guests were therefore hidden from the cameramen hovering overhead.
The nuptials came as the climax of three days of celebrations at the actor's ranch. One of the highlights was a cricket match, which enjoyed the participation of legendary bowler Shane Warne. It was Crowe's team that won the game, however. "Under the guise of competition, it's a chance for people to come together," he said.
