Hollywood tough-guy John Travolta has been speaking out about his hard-won victory over his spare tyre, and why it was love that eventually helped him win the battle of the bulge.
The 49-year-old says it was his love for his wife that motivated him to get back into shape. Speaking in an interview, the actor revealed that his spouse, actress Kelly Preston, made some affectionate jokes about his growing weight one night at their home. And while her comments weren't meant to cause offence, they made him realise the time had come for a change.
"She was trying to tell me something I should have seen. I'd let myself go and become a bit of a wreck," he admits. "My wife still loves me and I love her – that won't change. But my self-esteem was showing cracks. I thought, 'This looks like a middle-aged man in bad shape'."
Many of the star's fans were surprised when he removed his shirt in Pulp Fiction to reveal a pudgy John had replaced the lean hunk that made a splash in Saturday Night Fever. But when the 6'2" star appeared on a recent episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, he proved he's back to his old self by showing off his sexy six-pack.
