As the Academy celebrates its 75th year, we asked our readers to choose their favourite "Golden Boy" - the Oscar-winning actor that, with a rare combination of talent, sex appeal and charisma, most personifies the ultimate leading man.
And with nearly 13,000 votes counted in our on-line poll, hellomagazine.com readers have overwhelmingly named Gladiator hunk Russell Crowe as their favourite Academy Award-winning leading man of all time.
The Australian newlywed scooped the number one spot on the top ten, edging out competition from Leaving Las Vegas star Nicolas Cage and legendary actor Paul Newman, in second and third place respectively.
While old Hollywood legends did make the cut – James Stewart, Gregory Peck, Clark Gable and Marlon Brando among them – it was the relatively new talent who scored the highest rankings.
Training Day's Denzel Washington and Gangs Of New York actor Daniel Day-Lewis rounded out the top five, with Robert DeNiro, who began his career in the 1960s, coming in sixth.
