Madonna showed her appreciation of her British fans on Friday by giving an intimate, one-off concert in the capital's Oxford Street. Just 500 tickets were made available for the gig at the HMV store in the heart of London's shopping district.
It was probably the only opportunity British fans will have to see the Material Girl this year, as no tour dates have been planned. The surprise concert was only announced on Wednesday, sparking a scramble for tickets.
The last time she played live in Britain it was to more than 100,000 people, during a six-night stint at London's Earls Court.
And it seems it's not just fans of her music who are enamoured with the iconic singer. Local Yorkshire ale company Timothy Taylor Bitter were intoxicated with delight after the 44-year-old publicly endorsed their beer.
"I have learned to love real ale – Timothy Taylor's the best," Madonna told Jonathan Ross in a recent TV interview. Her comments sparked a sudden hike in sales of the tipple, and Timothy Taylor have sent her a crate of her favourite beverage by way of thanks.
"We are completely over the moon that she likes our beer," said brewery manager Charles Dent. "We are just a small, local brewery and now we are getting phone calls from all over the place. I shall be sending her a letter of thanks and, of course, some beer on us."
