Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry has suffered a broken arm on the set of her latest film Gothika in Canada.

The star was filming a physically demanding scene, said Warner Brothers spokesman Joe Everett, when the accident took place. "It wasn't a stunt scene," he said. It was just one of those physical scenes in a movie and her arm didn't go the way it was supposed to."

Halle was taken by ambulance to a Montreal hospital, where she was treated for a broken ulna (the bone that stretches from the elbow to the wrist). Producers Joel Silver and Robert Zemekis have shut down filming until next Tuesday and are now considering how to shoot around the her arm cast.

It is not the first time the 32-year-old has been hurt in the course of her work, as she also suffered an eye injury on the set of the James Bond movie Die Another Day.

In the new film she plays a criminal psychologist who wakes up one morning to find herself accused of her own husband's murder. And to make matters worse she is locked up in the asylum where she used to work.

There are four week's shooting left for the production, which also stars Robert Downey Jr and Penelope Cruz.
