Australian Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman has arrived in Cannes to promote her new film Dogville - and the enigmatic actress has already made a big impression. Dressed in a figure-hugging black gown, the 35-year-old sent photographers into a frenzy at her first photocall of the event.
Industry insiders are predicting she will garner yet more awards for her performance in the movie, which was written and directed by renowned Danish filmmaker Lars Von Trier. The film sees Nicole playing a woman on the run from the mob. Her character discovers that the mafia isn't her only problem, however, when she takes refuge in an isolated mountain village.
Lars is once again competing for the festival's main award, the Palme d'Or, which he won in 2000 forDancer In The Dark.
Nicole arrived in Cannes just as her ex-husband Tom Cruise's new girlfriend jetted out. Penelope Cruz had been in town to support her new film, FanFan La Tulipe.
And Nicole's appearance also came hot on the heels of a glamorous party to launch the new Terminator sequel, Rise Of The Machines. At the bash, which was staged in designer Pierre Cardin's Riviera home, Arnold Schwarzenegger rubbed shoulders with some 1,500 guests.
